Solitary bee nests and pests presentation, RHS Harlow Carr
“George gave a great presentation to the garden team as part of their staff development, at Harlow Carr. We learnt so much about Mason and Leaf Cutter bees (who knew that there are around 270 wild bee species!) and their predators. We now have a much greater awareness of how important they are as pollinators to our flowers and subsequently fruit and veg production in the Kitchen garden. We were told and now know how to encourage and look after these little friends, and manage them to increase their numbers. We will be putting our new summer unit in our nest box soon.”
Alison Goding, Garden Manager RHS Harlow Carr
I must say that Harlow Carr, just outside of Harrogate, beautiful gardens which are well worth a visit. As is Betty’s next door! George
Is now the time of year to transfer cocoons from their ‘ slots’ in the nest box to the separate compartment ready for ‘ hatching ‘ ?
Absolutely Peter. Cheers George
