Common Yellow-face bee starts her new nest but dies near the entrance
This female Common yellow-face bee (Hylaeus communis) did nest in another cavity and as she neared the end of that nest, she flew around in search of another nest site. I was on hand to view this so I am positive its the same female that later died. View this species making her cellophane-like nest along with other interesting information.
I have seen this before with possibly at least 2 Red Mason (Osmia bicornis) female bees doing exactly the same, although had already filled the cavities behind their dead bodies and completed the nest site, except for the plug at the entrance. I assumed they were just exhausted and died. There will probably be other bees and wasps that die in a similar manner.
