For Immediate Release- National Insect Week 25 June – 1 July 2012

“Radical new nest box design gives bees a chance”

To celebrate National Insect Week from 25 June to 1 July Nurturing Nature, a Liverpool-based company, are launching a radical new nesting box for wild bees – The Wild Bee Box.

The nest boxes, designed after years of painstaking observation and experimentation by George Pilkington, have been specifically made for the smaller native bees, like the Red Mason and Leaf Cutter bee.

Environmental educator and author George Pilkington says:

“When people think of bees, they think of honeybees, but there are over 250 species of wild bee which are absolutely essential to the pollination our flowers, fruit and vegetables. Their natural habitats are declining, so by providing them with safe and comfortable places to nest it means we can better help them to help us”

The Wild Bee Boxes, made in Britain, have 2 unique viewing panels that allow you to safely follow the life-cycle of the bees with minimal disturbance to the animals. This makes the nest boxes ideal for schools, homes and environment centers.

Made from environmentally friendly FSC certified wood these nest boxes are made to last for years. The nesting blocks can be reused many times and have been constructed for easy removal for cleaning. Optional extras include a cocoon storage box which fits underneath the main box and interchangeable nest blocks to attract other wild and beneficial insects such as harmless solitary wasps.

George Pilkington says:

“Most bee boxes and nesting tubes on the market can only be used once then have to be thrown away. The Wild Bee Box can be used again and again, and can even be easily adapted to accommodate different species of bee. It has been very satisfying to get such positive comments from people who have used the nest box, our bees need all the help they can get at the moment”

As a special offer Nurturing Nature are offering a FREE cocoon box to the first 50 people who buy the wild bee box during National Insect Week
