Not Just for Beekeepers!

Date Thursday 21 August 2014

Time 6.30 for 7.00pm

Location Bodnant Welsh Food Centre, Tal-Y-Cafn Cost £2.50 each in aid of NBCW

This fascinating talk, hosted by the National Beekeeping Centre Wales, will inform you about the types of bumble and solitary bee commonly found in gardens in the North West of the UK. The talk will discuss how you can help encourage these insects to your gardens, ways of preventing some of their pests and show you the award winning bumblebee and solitary nest boxes created by George Pilkington.

Passionate about wildlife gardening, George wants to ‘light a spark’ in future generations, the custodians of our natural environment, by encouraging wildlife in our own gardens. Bringing his own family up with this in mind, he was dismayed when bumblebees and solitary bees in his garden were killed by pests and parasites, but didn’t know what to do about it.

A huge career change, MSc and a Cert Ed, gave him the opportunity to research the problem, and to teach others how to deal with these pests and make their gardens an oasis for bees. He’s written a book on the subject, ‘Wildlife Gardening’ and produced a range of bumblebee and solitary nest boxes too, for which he’s received an award, presented to him at the Houses of Parliament.

We hope to welcome you to this talk held in the Pochin Room at the Bodnant Welsh Food Centre. Tickets £2.50 each in aid of NBCW.
